Kenyan citizen. Her father Mac-Abeli Riungu originally from The Meru tribe and mother Aisha Wache from Taita a tribe from the coast.
She was born and raised in Mombasa, went to High school in Meru for 4yrs before joining University in Nairobi.
Doreen holds an LLB in Law from The Catholic University of Eastern Africa and a post graduate diploma in Advocate training the Kenya School of law and currently awaiting admission to the Bar.
Doreen’s career in the media started late in 2015 pursuing a training in media across broadcast and digital media with her career picking up in 2016 when she started working for Kenyan broadcaster Ebru Tv in Nairobi. Doreen has been a Swahili news anchor of the 7pm bulletin MWANGA WA EBRU at Ebru Tv until November 1st , she has also hosted a current affair show dubbed TUJADILIANE that airs every week.Doreen has over 50,000 followers across her social media platforms Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn in a span of less than 2yrs in the media industry.
Doreen Gatwiri has a close heart for the less privileged and her passion being children. She is involved with personal and community charities work.She’s a member of an initiative in Kibera slums dubbed Young Single Mothers Empowerment Group (YSMEG) a platform that empowers young mothers through creating employment in Kibera slums.She’s a volunteer at the Kenya Girl Guide Association and a Volunteer at the Nyumbani Children’s Home in Dagoretti Nairobi.Her passion for children pushed her to starting a charity foundation dubbed DOREEN GATWIRI FOUNDATION that seeks to help enhancing education in underprivileged schools. The foundation is set to be launched soon.
Doreen is married to a city architect and politician.
